From Vanderburg County, IN, he mustered as Private, Company E, 14th Indiana Infantry on 7 June 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the left lung in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at the Smoketown Hospital but died there of wounds on 4 October 1862. He was originally buried near the hospital but reinterred in the new National Cemetery about 1867.
