He mustered as Private, Company C, 14th Indiana Infantry on 30 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded by gunshot at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was probably treated at a field hospital near the battlefield, and then admitted to the US Army hospital at the City Hotel in Frederick, MD on 28 September. He died there a month later on 28 October and was buried nearby. He was reinterred in grave #3433 in the new National Cemetery about 1867.
