He was reinterred from his original burial on the Antietam battlefield to the National Cemetery in about 1867.

His burial from the Antietam Cemetery History,1 as C. McCaffery; he's seen as Charles McCaffrey in the US Registers of Death in the Regular Army. He's not found under either name in the Registers of Enlistments in the United States Army.
