From Canton, he enlisted as a Private in Company B (called K in Federal service), 2nd Connecticut Infantry for 3 months on 22 April 1861 and mustered out with them on 7 August. He enlisted again, as a Private in Company E, 16th Connecticut Infantry on 23 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
