Before Antietam
Age 23, he enrolled on Long Island, NY and mustered in as First Lieutenant of Company C, 42nd New York Infantry on 22 June 1861. He was captured in the battle at Ball's Bluff, VA on 21 October and paroled, date not given. He was promoted to Captain on 14 March 1862.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
After the War
He was reinterred from his original burial on the Antietam battlefield to the National Cemetery during or before 1867.
