Before Antietam

An 18 year old farmer in Haverhill, MA, he mustered as Private, Company D, 20th Massachusetts Infantry on 21 August 1861. He was captured in action at Ball's Bluff, VA on 21 October 1861 and held in Richmond, VA. He returned to duty, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was reinterred from his original burial on the Antietam battlefield to the National Cemetery, grave #898, during or before 1867.
