Age 25, he enlisted as Private in Company F, 18th New York Infantry at Albany on 19 April 1861.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of his wounds in Frederick, MD on 17 November 1862. Originally buried there, he was reinterred in the new National Cemetery in about 1867.
