Age 18, he enlisted and mustered as Corporal, Company D, 87th Ohio Infantry on 10 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 16 September 1862 for Phthisis (pulmonary tuberculosis) and died there on the 18th.

After the War

He was originally buried in Frederick but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
