Age 36, he enlisted on 27 April 1861 at West Chazy for two years and mustered as Private, Company K, 16th New York Infantry on 15 May.

On the Campaign

He was left behind on South Mountain and died of disease in Burkittsville, MD on 24 October 1862.

After the War

He was reinterred from his original burial to the new National Cemetery in about 1867.
