Age 25, he enlisted at Geneseo and mustered as Private, Company E, 104th New York Infantry on 23 October 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded by a gunshot in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to the US Army hospital in the City Hotel in Frederick, MD on 28 September and died there on 29 October 1862.

After the War

He was originally buried in Frederick but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
