Age 33 years, he enrolled at New York City to serve three years, and mustered in as Corporal, Company I, 69th New York Infantry on 27 September 1861. He was returned to the ranks (reduced to Private), date not given.

On the Campaign

He died of disease in Frederick, MD on 5 October 1862.

After the War

He was originally buried in Frederick but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
