He enlisted as a Corporal in Company G, 5th Wisconsin Infantry on 17 April 1861.

On the Campaign

He died of disease in a hospital in Hagerstown, MD on 24 November 1862.

After the War

He was originally buried in Hagerstown but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
