A 20 year old carpenter in Indiana County, he enlisted in Harrisburg on 24 July 1861 and mustered into service as Private, Company H, 12th Pennsylvania Reserves on 10 August in Harrisburg.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was reinterred from his original burial on the battlefield to the new National Cemetery in about 1867.
