A 19 year old laborer in Mifflin County, he enlisted there on 14 October 1861 and mustered into service as Private, Company C, 45th Pennsylvania Infantry in October in Harrisburg.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
