Age 28, he enlisted on 1 May 1861 in Brooklyn and mustered as Private in Company I, 67th New York Infantry on 20 June.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in Maryland but died of typhoid fever at a hospital in Hagerstown, MD on 4 November 1862.

After the War

He was initially buried in a plot near the Alms House in Hagerstown but was reinterred at the new Antietam National Cemetery in 1866-67.
