Age 18, he enlisted as Private, Company K, 29th Ohio Infantry on 26 November 1861.

On the Campaign

He died of disease in a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 20 October 1862.

After the War

He was originally buried in Frederick but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
