Age 20, he was a shoemaker in East Abington when he enlisted in June 1861 in the 12th Massachusetts Infantry, Company G.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds at Smoketown, MD on 14 October 1862 and was buried there. Reinterred in the National Cemetery by 1867.
