Age 45, from Johnstown, MI, he enlisted 24 July 1862 in Kalamazoo and mustered as Private, Company D, 17th Michigan Infantry on 6 August.

On the Campaign

He died of disease at the Big Spring Hospital near Sharpsburg on 23 or 24 October (or 10 November) 1862.

After the War

He was originally buried at Sharpsburg but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
