Before Antietam
Age 38, he enlisted in Philadelphia on 8 August 1862 and mustered into service as a Private in Company C, 28th Pennsylvania Infantry on 12 August in Philadelphia.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
After the War
He was reinterred from his original burial on the battlefield to the National Cemetery in about 1867.
