He enlisted 9 July 1861 in Washington, DC, and mustered the same day as Private, Company E, 27th New York Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in Maryland but died of disease in a hospital in Hagerstown, MD on 8 November 1862.

After the War

He was initially buried in a plot near the Alms House in Hagerstown, but was reinterred at the new Antietam National Cemetery in 1866-67.
