On 1 May 1861, age 21, he enlisted in Ithica for two years and mustered as Private, Company A, 32nd New York Infantry on 31 May.

On the Campaign

He died of disease in a hospital in Hagerstown, MD on 3 November 1862.

After the War

He was originally buried in Hagerstown but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
