Before Antietam
From Lawrence County, he enlisted as a Private in Company A, 134th Pennsylvania Infantry on 9 August 1862.
On the Campaign
He died, probably of disease, at a field hospital near the Antietam battlefield on 10 October 1862.
After the War
He was originally buried on the battlefield but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
