Before Antietam
Age 30, he enlisted as Private, Company I, 7th West Virginia Infantry on 22 November 1861.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in the thigh in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was treated in the hospital at Smoketown, MD but died there of wounds on 4 November 1862.
After the War
He was originally buried at Smoketown but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
