Before Antietam
Age 22, he enlisted as a Private in Company D, 7th (West) Virginia Volunteers on 7 August 1861 in Grayville, OH.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds in a field hospital on or near the battlefield on 30 September 1862.
After the War
He was reinterred from his original burial on the Antietam battlefield to the National Cemetery during or before 1867.
