Age 20, he enlisted 1 August 1862 at Plainfield and mustered in as Private, Company B, 121st New York Infantry on 23 August.

On the Campaign

He died of diphtheria on 30 November (or 12 December) 1862 at Hagerstown, MD.

After the War

He was initially buried in Hagerstown and was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
