Age 32, he enlisted as Private, Company K, 11th Pennsylvania Infantry on 2 September 1861 at Youngstown.

On the Campaign

He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 19 September 1862 with typhoid fever and died there on 26 September 1862.

After the War

He was originally buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
