Before Antietam
A 20 year old farmer, he enlisted on 11 July 1861 in Pittsburgh, and mustered as a Private in Company B, 11th Pennsylvania Reserves on 29 July.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862
The rest of the War
He was reinterred from his original burial in Burkittsville, MD to the National Cemetery in about 1867.
