Before Antietam

On 26 August 1861, age 33, he enlisted in Jamestown for three years and mustered as Sergeant, Company K, 49th New York Infantry on 18 September. He was reduced to Private on 31 March 1862.

On the Campaign

He died of "congestion of the lungs" on 30 September 1862 in Bakersville, MD.

After the War

He was reinterred from his original burial to the National Cemetery about 1867.
