Before Antietam

In 1860 he was a 16 year old farm hand on the Joseph Sutton place in Kent County, DE. He enlisted in Wilmington giving his age as 19 about 12 June 1861 and mustered there as a Private in Company E, 2nd Delaware Infantry on 1 July.

On the Campaign

He was killed by a gunshot to his head in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
