Age 22, he enlisted on 1 May 1861 at Edwards for two years and mustered as Private, Company D, 16th New York Infantry on 15 May.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

After the War

He was reinterred from his original burial to the new National Cemetery in about 1867.
