Before Antietam

A 20 year old laborer, he enlisted in Lancaster County on 2 September 1861 and mustered into service as Private, Company B, 45th Pennsylvania Infantry on 21 October in Harrisburg.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was reinterred from his original burial on South Mountain to the National Cemetery in about 1867.
