From Holland, he enlisted in Company D, 8th Michigan Infantry on 11 September 1861 at age 18.

On the Campaign

He died of disease at Middletown, MD on 2 November 1862.

After the War

He was originally buried in Middletown but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
