A farm laborer, he enlisted at age 18 in Adams, NY and mustered in as Private, Company B, 59th New York Infantry on 12 October 1861. He transferred to Company H on 31 December 1861.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
