Before Antietam

A shoemaker's son, in 1860 he was a 19 year old living with his parents and siblings at Philipsburg in Centre County, PA. He enlisted there on 12 September 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company D, 53rd Pennsylvania Infantry on 16 October in Harrisburg.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

After the War

He was reinterred from his original burial on the battlefield to the National Cemetery in about 1867.
