Before Sharpsburg
From Petersburg, he mustered as Private, Captain Branch's Petersburg Light Artillery on 11 May 1861. He was promoted to Sergeant on 20 July 1861 and appointed Sergeant Major of the Battery in June 1862.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.
The rest of the War
He was originally buried "on right of hollow leading from Shepherdstown road to the lock". Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
