He was mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
Admitted to Antietam General Hospital, Smoketown, MD with wound of skull. Died there 10-19-1862. Buried in the Smoketown hospital graveyard near the battlefield at Sharpsburg, and probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
