He was reported wounded and captured in action, probably on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to a USA field hospital in Burkittsville, MD but died there of wounds on 30 September. He was originally buried "close along the fence on west side of woods back of graveyard in Burkettsville" and probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
