Before Sharpsburg
A 23 year old farmer in Amherst County, he mustered as Corporal, Company F, 58th Virginia Infantry on 15 August 1861.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds 27 September 1862. He was originally buried on the field at Sharpsburg at the "the northern edge of Stephen Grove's woods" and was probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
