Before Sharpsburg
Age 17, a student in Fredericksburg, probably from Spottsylvania, he mustered as Private, Company C, 30th Virginia Infantry on 23 May 1861. He was appointed Corporal on 1 September 1861.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
Originally buried "in Samuel Beeler's barn field along the fence, running east from the barn" near the battlefield at Sharpsburg. Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
