He enlisted at Camp Stephens, GA as a Private in Company A, 61st Georgia Infantry on 27 August 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.

The rest of the War

He died at the "White House" field hospital on the Line Farm at Sharpsburg, date not given, but before 2 October. He was originally buried "west of George Line's house in his new ground along side of an old white oak tree near his pond."

After the War

He was probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
