He enlisted as a Private in Company A and was appointed 3rd Sergeant, Company E, 15th Virginia Infantry on 23 April 1861.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.

The rest of the War

He was originally buried "in Rev. J. J. Adams town lot, back of the M. E. Graveyard" in the town of Sharpsburg and probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
