Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 31 year old farmer near Flint Hill in Carroll County, GA. He enlisted and mustered in Carroll County, GA on 15 August 1861 as a Private in Company F, Cobb's Legion Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded by a gunshot to his chest in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 and captured.
The rest of the War
He was treated at the US Army 6th Corps field hospital in Burkittsville, MD but died of his wounds there on 21 October 1862. He was originally buried "close along the fence on west side of woods back of graveyard in Burkettsville [Burkittsviile, Maryland]."
His widow Mary N Buise filed for his final pay of $87.70 in May 1863, and she was paid in January 1864.
After the War
He was probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
