A 26 year old teacher in Hampton, he mustered as Private, Company A, 32nd Virginia Infantry on 13 May 1861 in Hampton.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds, date not given, and was originally buried on the field at Sharpsburg at the "the northern edge of Stephen Grove's woods". He was probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
