Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 27 year old merchant in Covington in Newton County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company D, 53rd Georgia Infantry on 6 May 1862 in Coweta County and he was elected First Lieutenant of his Company on 29 May.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.
The rest of the War
He died on Elias Grove's Farm near Sharpsburg and was buried on the field; date not given.
After the War
He was probably reinterred in the Washington Confederate Cemetery in Hagerstown in about 1874.
