Before Sharpsburg
From the Laurens District, he was conscripted and enlisted on 1 July 1862 at Greenville as a Private in Company F, Third South Carolina Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.
The rest of the War
He was treated in a US field hospital on the Lavinia Grove farm near Sharpsburg and died there of wounds, date not given. He was originally buried on the field at Sharpsburg near "Mrs. Lucker's" [Locker] barn.
After the War
He was probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
