Enlisted as a Private in Company G, l8th Regiment Georgia Infantry on 1 May 1861. Transferred to Company E, 23rd Regiment Georgia Infantry 1 December 1861.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action on South Mountain at Crampton's Gap on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds on 26 September 1862. Originally buried "in Mrs. Hoffman's barn field near Boonsboro, 150 yards N. W. of the barn". Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
