From Jackson County, he enlisted as Private, Company G, 16th Georgia Infantry on 20 July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and captured.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds at a field hospital in Burkittsville, MD on 4 October 1862. He was originally buried "close along the fence on west side of woods back of graveyard in Burkettsville [Burkittsviile, Maryland]" and probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
