A Dallas County farmer before the War, he enlisted in Company I, 3rd Arkansas Infantry, at Tulip, Arkansas, June 25, 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds in Samuel Beeler’s house at Sharpsburg, October 5, 1862. Originally buried "in Samuel Beeler's barn field along the fence, running east from the barn" near the battlefield at Sharpsburg. Probably reinterred at Hagerstown in about 1874.
