Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 21 year old living with his parents and siblings on their farm at West Point in Troup County, GA; 20 year old William Henry Ward lived next door. He enlisted as a Private in Company K, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 in Griffin, GA.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in Maryland, but "died of smallpox when on the return from Sharpsburg" at Middetown, VA on 24 November 1862.

The rest of the War

His mother Caroline filed for his final pay in July 1864.
