He was mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.
The rest of the War
He died in Samuel Beeler’s house at Sharpsburg, September 26, 1862. Originally buried "in Samuel Beeler's barn field along the fence, running east from the barn" near the battlefield at Sharpsburg. He was reinterred in the Washington Confederate Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD in about 1874. His body was moved again, to Harrodsburg, KY, date not known.
